2 Minutes To Code (β Version)

Debugging with Eclipse - 2 minute tutorial

Understanding Variables view of debugger

Let's see what the Variables View can do.

When a breakpoint is hit, the Variables view gets populated with the variables and their respective values of the class selected in the left-side pane. These are the variables that are visible at the point in code where the execution of code is currently paused. If the variables are reference to objects, then you can drill down its reference hierarchy, and see the names of its fields and their values.

And now things get exciting. In the Variables view, you can modify the values of variables, and the code will now work with modified values. That is you can interact with jvm in real time.
