'jhat' command - 2 minute tutorial

Basic Usage : How to use 'jhat' to open a jvm heap dump

Running jhat (present in $JDK_HOME/bin folder) is very simple. The complete command is jhat dump.hprof where dump.hprof is the dump file (both relative and absolute file names are allowed)

What jhat will do is, it will analyze the heap dump and make the data available on a local webserver that it runs by default on port 7000.

Let's see what data it provides on the next page.
